It was placed under protection in August, 1986 with 5291 ha. One of this area is the Nagy-kopasz Hill (513m) that belongs to Tokaj-Hegyalja, it is the biggest vulcanic hill in Hungary. Bodrog-Tisza floodplain is the other area. It has marshland, moors and reeds.
