The Rákóczi Cellar, a real sanctuary of Tokaj wines, is one of those rare places where dreams and reality mix in the fantasy of visitors. In the course of centuries the cellar, built at the beginning of the 15th century, was owned by kings, sovereigns, princes and generals.
The imposing (28 m long, 10 m wide and 5 m high) knights\' hall is the largest underground hall of this wine region and this is where the orders elected János Szapolyai the king of Hungary in 1526. Today it serves as a place of wine presen-tations for wine friends and professionals and, besides, the wine order of the region also holds its ceremonies here. In the endless branches of the cellar works the Wine Museum exhibiting the best wines of Tokaj-Hétszőlő Wine Estate. The museum, storing 500-1.000 bottles per vintage, also facilitates the mellowing of up to a hundred vintages under ideal circumstances.
